MILAN - From Friday 18 September 2020, at 21.10, the world premiere of TV on laF (Sky135). Sanditon. Jane Austen's unfinished novel arrives on TV for the first time. The highly anticipated series-event signed by BAFTA award-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies is set in the first two decades of the 1800s and stars Rose Williams and Theo James.
"Sanditon", the unfinished novel by Jane Austen, arrives on the small screen for the first time, in a mini-series event exclusively for Italy on laF, on Demand on Sky and on Sky Go, broadcast from Friday 18 September 2020 , at 21.10.
To conclude the work for TV is the BAFTA Award Andrew Davies, screenwriter who has already written War and Peace, Les Miserables, Pride and Prejudice and Little Dorrit; starting point for him, the 24,000 words divided into 11 chapters and 120 pages that the famous British author had written between January and March 1817, a few months after her death. The novel, published posthumously in 1871, was the starting point for several literary versions and even a web series, but never before had it been the focus of a television adaptation.
The sumptuous period-drama, produced by ITV and PBS / MASTERPIECE, is set in the first two decades of the 1800s, at the end of the Georgian era, and stars a young and charming couple of actors: Rose Williams (I Medici, Reign) in the role impulsive and unconventional Charlotte Heywood, and Theo James (The Divergent Series, Golden Boy, Underworld - The Awakening, Underworld: Blood Wars), who plays the handsome Sidney, the wildest and most rude of the Parker brothers.
A rural villager and eldest daughter of 12 brothers, Charlotte will be invited by the Parkers after a fortuitous accident in their carriage to spend a holiday in the trendy seaside resort of Sanditon; optimistic towards the future and enthusiastic about the great social and economic changes taking place, like a perfect heroine in the style of Austen, Charlotte will find herself growing up trying to overcome her social gap with respect to unscrupulous entrepreneurs and businessmen, facing intrigues and family secrets and discovering for the first time also the contrasting feeling of love.
Rounding out the cast, Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax, Hold the Sunset), who plays the austere and miserly Lady Denham, a wealthy widow and business partner of Tom Parker, who has the face of Kris Marshall (Crimes in Heaven, Love Actually), Crystal Clarke (The Two Truths) as Georgiana Lambe, a mysterious heiress from the West Indies and Austen's first black character, while Jack Fox (Theeb, Genius) and Charlotte Spencer (The Living and the Dead) play Sir Edward and Miss Esther, nieces of Lady Denham's late husband.
"Jane Austen only managed to write a fragment of her latest novel before she died, but what a fragment!" Andrew Davies said. "It was a privilege and a thrill for me to develop Sanditon into a television drama for a modern audience with such a brilliant cast."
